GOP Indiana State Rep. Eric Turner: Women might lie about rape, incest to get an abortion

NY DAILY NEWS - Indiana State Rep. Eric Turner caused a firestorm this week after arguing women might lie about rape or incest in order to get an abortion.

 

Turner made the controversial remarks during a debate on an amendment to a strict anti-abortion bill that would prohibit women more than 20 weeks' pregnant from getting the procedure.

Except in the case of rape or incest. This is what Turner called a "giant loophole."

The amendment in Indiana failed 54-42, but the bill itself passed in the House 72-23. It also requires that women be told that the procedure carries a risk of breast cancer before getting an abortion.

Indiana Lawmaker Will Close The Rape Loophole In Abortion Law, Because Of All The Women Pretending To Be Rape Survivors

INDIANA - Indiana State legislation is considering HB 1210, which would make most abortions illegal after 20 weeks.

However, the bill does not protect those who are raped.

State Representative Gail Riecken (D) has urged her colleagues to consider an amendment that would provide exceptions to the law for women who were rape or incest survivors.
